Bru Van Kieu ethnic people (Quang Tri) practice community tourism
(TITC) – The Western mountainous region of Quang Tri Province has a rich and diverse natural ecosystem and landscape with Ta Puong waterfall – a green silk strip in the middle of the Truong Son primeval forest.
Being endowed with beautiful natural landscape, the Bru Van Kieu ethnic group has practiced community tourism at Ta Puong waterfall (Trang Ta Puong village, Huong Viet commune, Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province).

In 2022, the Netherlands – Viet Nam Medical Committee in Quang Tri coordinated with the local authorities to select four Bru-Van Kieu ethnic minorities in the village to learn how to do community tourism. They were instructed on how to prepare dishes that meet food safety and hygiene standards; were supported with 65 million VND to build a walking path to the waterfall and set up huts and stalls to serve tourists.
After learning how to do tourism, in 2023, the Trang Ta Puong Community Tourism Group was established with 20 members under the coordination of Group Leader Ho Van Gioi.
They built a walking path to Ta Puong 3 waterfall for tourists to travel easily. 15 bamboo huts were built in the ground in front of the lake, enough for about 10 people in each hut.
Coming here, visitors can immerse themselves in the peaceful space of the lake at the foot of the clear waterfall surrounded by deep green jungle. Interesting activities such as bathing in the cool lake, rowing bamboo rafts around the lake to experience the thrill of the cool stream pouring into the body, or walking to explore the vegetation of the tropical forest. The experience was guided and helped enthusiastically by the Community Tourism Group, so everyone felt comfortable and safe.
After having a fun time, visitors started to enjoy local culinary specialties served by Mr. Ho Van Gioi’s group. It is a tray of local cuisine such as wild vegetables, cool fish, grilled chicken, boiled banana flowers, sticky rice, rice wine, bamboo rice… All are fresh, clean and healthy.
Community tourism at Ta Puong waterfall has promoted socio-economic development in mountainous and ethnic minority areas, contributing to creating more jobs for the locals.
